Tripwire on your Fedora Box

by Krishnan Subramanian

Automating Tripwire Checks

The RPM installation of Tripwire sets up a cron job to check the integrity of your files. If you want you can also setup a cron job which will send you the details about the changes in your files through email.

If you don't want to automate the tripwire check and want to do it manually, you should remove the cron job setup during installation. If you are going to run the tripwire checks manually, it is recommended that the tripwire database $HOSTNAME.twd file is moved someplace e.g. floppy, where it cannot be modified or encrypt it. This will add to the security of the database as data from Tripwire is only as trustworthy as its database. But remember to have the databse file in place before you run tripwire next time.

If you encounter any problems, post your issues in the relevant mailing lists like Fedora users mailing list. Due to large number of mails asking for support, we are not in a position to help you with installation or configuration.
