Announcing Fedora Core 6 Test 1 (5.90)

Jesse Keating (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JesseKeating) announces in fedora-announce-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-June/msg00010.html):

The Fedora Project announces the first release of the Fedora Core 6 development cycle, available for the i386, x86_64, and ppc/ppc64 architectures, including Intel based Macintosh computers. Beware that Test releases are recommended only for Linux experts/enthusiasts or for the technology evaluation, as many parts are likely to be broken adn the rate of change is rapid. Test 2 is scheduled for release July 19, marking the developmental freeze of the Fedora Core 6 release. No new features after this point. It is important that we get your help in testing, reporting and suggesting fixes for bugs, and directing the technological improvements we attempt with this release of Fedora Core.

A Fresh Look for Fedora Core 6

Máirín Duffy (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MairinDuffy) announces in fedora-art-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2006-June/msg00054.html):

Phoronix: Fedora Core 6 Preview

According to Michael Larabel with Phoronix's review (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=499&num=1):

Before moving onto raving or ranting about the Fedora Core 6 Test 1 release, it is important to point out that this article is not intended to be a traditional review of Fedora Core 6 so to speak, but rather an outlook at what FC6 will hold in store for Linux desktop users. It is also not possible to cover everything at this time, since this is simply the first test release, while many more features will be added down the road.

On a related note, O'Reilly's OSDir.com already published Fedora Core 6 Test1 Screenshot Tour (http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=685&slide=30&title=fedora+core+6+test1+screenshots).

According to his follow up blog (http://mricon.livejournal.com/332046.html):

I now have a fully working Fedora installation on my Mactel Mini (solo). Sound requires tweaking. Here's what you need to do.

Yum Extender Update

According to Tim Lauridsen (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/TimLauridsen)'s personal blog (http://linux.rasmil.dk/cms/modules/wordpress/2006/06/19/yum-extender/):

I have just made 2 yumex (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/YumExtender) releases:

1.1.0: (extras development) - This is the first release in the yumex 1.1.x development branch. This release is build on top of yum 2.9.x, just landed in Rawhide, it will only work with yum 2.9.x and later because of the yum api is changing a lot at the moment.

1.0.2: (extras (fc4,fc5)) - This is minor update of the stable branch containing a fix for bugzilla #130324.
