Read-Only copy of fedora-advisory-board list

Max Spevack (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MaxSpevack) announces in fedora-announce-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2006-June/msg00003.html):

Many people have said that they appreciate the transparency into the work of the Board, but that it would be far easier to get that transparency if there was a readonly copy of the list to which they could subscribe.

Fedora mentioned in Information Week

Max Spevack (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MaxSpevack) reports in fedora-marketing-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2006-June/msg00018.html):

Rex Dieter and I both have a one sentence quote. I love the fact that an hour long interview yielded one sentence. :-P

Rex Dieter, a contributor to Fedora, a version of Linux distributed by Red Hat, has been computer manager for the mathematics department at the University of Nebraska for 10 years. His paying job is his top priority. "If I have spare brain cycles afterward, more power to me," he says. When he recently became a member of Fedora's board, his boss, the computer labs professor, shook his hand and congratulated him.

Many contributors say the challenge of developing good code provides all the recognition and satisfaction they need. "I love the fact that I have to post the reasons I think I'm correct in a public place," says Max Spevack, chairman of Red Hat's Fedora Project. "It forces me to defend my opinions."

Puplet Icons Design in Progress

Máirín Duffy (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MairinDuffy) reports in fedora-art-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2006-June/msg00001.html):

Jeremy Katz (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JeremyKatz) and Seth Vidal (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SethVidal) have been working on puplet (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumApplet), which will inform Fedora users of when their packages are out-of-date. The icons needed for puplet are:

  • 1) 'Updates are available and need to be applied'
  • 2) 'The system is currently downloading updates' (will help explain to users why their system may be running a bit slowly)
  • 3) 'Updates have been applied'
  • 4) Pup is confused / error condition (maybe network is down)

I started work on icon #1 working from the style / color palette Diana has set with her new icon theme.

If anybody has any thoughts about what could be used to represent the different icons needed or any ideas on improvements to what I've put up or even if you just want to play around with the SVG feel free!

Fedora on Mactel Testing in Progress

Jeremy Katz (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JeremyKatz) points out in his blog (http://katzj.livejournal.com/390857.html):

Yesterday, we finally had a few of the Intel Mac Minis arrive... This morning, I succeeded in getting the boot going and I've now integrated all of the things which I did by hand into anaconda. Which means that rawhide of tomorrow should actually be able to do something on the Intel Macs... there are some caveats, but the basics are there and written up on the wiki.

Re-spin your Fedora Core monthly

According to recent article in Tectonic (http://www.tectonic.co.za/view.php?id=1018):

FC5 users can look forward to such "re-spins", as the Fedora Unity Project calls them, once a month. "Early snapshots will be taken mid-month to start testing. Final snapshots will be taken about a week before the release. All released ISO images are tested using a 15-point test matrix to ensure the quality that the Fedora community expects," says the team.
