Tip of the Week: Make FC4 DVD out of FC4 CDs

This will allow you to create an FC4 DVD set out of your FC4 CD set - Submitted by Igor Kuharchuck (mailto:igorkblr@mail.ru)

  1. Get Jigsaw Download, or Jigdo (http://atterer.net/jigdo/) and install it via the RPM, source, or even use the windows version. Note: You may have a few dependencies if you install using the RPM
  2. Copy all of the files from each CD (including the rescue CD) into a single large directory, say ~/DVDMake, without overwriting any of the unique files (It is OK to overwrite the text files in the highest level of the CD, but all of the RPMS in the folder CD/Fedora/RPMS must all be present)
  3. Download the .jigdo file and the .template file (http://download.wpi.edu/pub/jigdo/) that corresponds to your architecture. ex: If you want to make an FC4 DVD out of the FC4 i386 CDs, you need to download FC4-i386-DVD.jigdo (http://download.wpi.edu/pub/jigdo/FC4-i386-DVD.jigdo) and FC4-i386-DVD.template (http://download.wpi.edu/pub/jigdo/FC4-i386-DVD.template)
  4. Run the command:
  jigdo-file mi -i FC4-i386-DVD.iso -j FC4-i386-DVD.jigdo -t FC4-i386-DVD.template ~/DVDMake

replacing the .jidgo and .template arcording to your architecture, and the last parameter with the directory. You can even specify a windows directory (in windows edition) such as C:\FC4-i386-DVD-files\

Compare the sha1sum of the generated ISO with that given on the Fedora Website (http://fedora.redhat.com)

Note: you can also make CD sets by mounting the DVD, and downloading the .jigdo and the .template file for each CD. However, each CD has to be made seperately
