Paul W. Frields has been a Linux user, enthusiast, and evangelist since 1996. His first distribution was Slackware but he saw the promise of wider appeal for Linux in the early Red Hat distributions. His first Red Hat Linux distro was 4.1, and he has used every version since then. He has taught Linux to over a thousand law enforcement, intelligence community and private enterprise professionals since 1999, writing his own course materials and bringing his distinctive, informal, and entertaining teaching style to classrooms around the country.
When the Fedora Project merged with Red Hat's free Linux project in 2003, he saw a chance to give back to the community that had empowered him and fueled his professional career for so many years. He immediately joined the Fedora Documentation Project (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject) and began the demanding but exciting pursuit of providing professional-quality documentation for Fedora users. That has led him to increasing his knowledge of free and open source software (FOSS) such as Emacs, DocBook XML, XSL and XSLT, CVS, GNU make, and Python. He was invited to the FDP Steering Committee (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/SteeringCommittee) in 2004 and continues to devote considerable time to editing, toolchain development, and project guidance.
In 2006, Paul was invited to join the newly constituted Fedora Project Board (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Board), which consists of Red Hat employees and key community members who seek to provide broad guidance and direction to the Project. The Board hopes to keep Fedora on the forefront of Linux and FOSS technologies while empowering the community to expand its reach in new and exciting directions.
Paul is often available on IRC at #fedora-docs and other Fedora-related channels, but his best contact point is email (mailto:stickster@gmail.com).
