Announcing Fedora 7 Test 2 (6.91)
Jesse Keating (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JesseKeating) announces in fedora-announce-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2007-March/msg00000.html):
Welcome to Fedora 7 Test 2. I am please to announce the second test release for Fedora 7.
Fedora 7 Test 2 is packaged initially as a Desktop/Development Workstation/Server implementation, called "Prime". This spin is delivered in DVD iso format only as a trial.
This test release includes an i386 ISO for a Desktop Live CD. This Live CD features the ability to install to a hard disk using the same graphical Anaconda installer as the non-live CD variant.
Reduction of Fedora releases (in Bugzilla)
Jesse Keating (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JesseKeating) also announces in fedora-devel-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2007-March/msg00095.html):
In an effort to make Bugzilla easier to use, we've been experimenting with not creating new versions of Fedora for every test release...Instead we're asking all bugs encountered in test releases to be filed against devel.
Phoronix: Fedora 7 KVM Virtualization How-To
According to recent article posted at Phoronix (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=656&num=8):
When it comes to the virtualization possibilities with Fedora 7, developers have hit the head on the nail. The virt-manager and libvirt improvements to allow for QEMU and KVM are phenomenal! We have truly been blown away by the integration of QEMU/KVM in Fedora 7, and are very excited to see how everything will come together in time for its May release. Fedora 7 has the best possibilities for KVM virtualization that we have seen from all Linux distributions to date. We had run into no problems during the virtualization process and are extremely pleased with what we had seen today.
IBM DeveloperWorks: Build a Fedora Live CD
According to recent article posted at IBM DeveloperWorks (http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-fedora-livecd/index.html):
Though Fedora Linux(r) is a popular and mature Linux distribution, and many people have created Live CD distributions based on Fedora, the Fedora project itself didn't released its first official Live CD until December 2006. Learn how to build your own custom and easy-to-use Live CDs using a rewrite of Pilgrim, the Fedora Live CD creation tool.
Linux.com: Fedora cleans its repositories, considers move to Free Software
According to recent article posted at Linux.com (http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=07/03/01/1646249):
Following a message from Michael Tiemann, Red Hat's vice president of open source affairs, to the Fedora Advisory Board mailing list in April 2006, board member Rahul Sundaram and Fedora developer Tom Callaway initiated a licensing audit of Fedora. After a strenuous scanning process, several changes were made to the Core repository to make Fedora compliant with its own packaging guidelines.
LWN: Who wrote (Linux Kernel) 2.6.20
According to recent article posted at LWN (http://lwn.net/Articles/222773/):
This study looked at the stream of patches that changed the 2.6.19 kernel into the current 2.6.20 release. There were, as it turns out 4983 non-merge changesets in this release, contributed by 741 different developers.
The end result of all this is that a number of the widely-expressed opinions about kernel development turn out to be true...Contemporary kernel development is spread out among a broad group of people, most of whom are paid for the work they do. Overall, the picture is of a broad-based and well-supported development community.
Editor's Note: Red Hat is the top 2nd company in the category of "Top changeset contributors by employer" and "Top lines changed by employer"
