Announcing a change in the Fedora 7 schedule
Jesse Keating (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JesseKeating) announces in fedora-maintainers (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-maintainers/2007-February/msg00525.html) list.
To accomplish these changes (and others) in time for the Feature Freeze, we have added another month to the schedule, introducing a Test 4, and moving the Feature Freeze as well as String Freeze up to Test 3 freeze, March 19. This moves the general availability date from April 26 to May 24.
Fedora 7 Test 1 Release Notes
Paul W Frields (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PaulWFrields) announces in fedora-announce-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2007-February/msg00004.html):
An abridged, "one-sheet" version of the Release Notes for Fedora 7 test1 (6.90) is now available at the following URL
Changes to fedora-advisory-board list
Max Spevack (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MaxSpevack) announces in fedora-announce-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2007-February/msg00005.html):
So, I've made some changes to the fedora-advisory-board list, effective this morning. Membership is now "confirm via email" rather than "moderater approved" so basically list subscription is now the same as all other Fedora lists. Still, fedora-advisory-board is the place where we like to have some of the higher-level decision making begin, but with the assumption that it will be pushed off to other lists as appropriate.
The Interview of Bill Nottingham
Here is an interview (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Interviews/BillNottingham) of Bill Nottingham (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BillNottingham) by Rahul Sundaram (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RahulSundaram):
As for which of the features are my favorite, I'd have to say it's the infrastructure around merging Core and Extras, and then the ability to do separate 'spins' of Fedora. We've long talked about removing any qualitative distinction between Core and Extras, and the best way to do that is to have everyone working in the same pool, towards the same release.
Fedora Directory Server is now in Fedora Extras
Richard Megginson (http://fedoranews.org/cms/user/3112) reports a story on Fedora Directory Server by email:
The Fedora Directory Server core package is now available from Fedora Extras. Many thanks again to Dennis Gilmore, and to Jarod Wilson, the Fedora DS community, and all of those who reviewed the package. Once the mirrors are updated, on fc-5 and fc-7 (the fc-6 build systems are having problems at the moment), you should be able to do a 'yum install fedora-ds'.
InfoDesk Inc. Chooses Fedora Directory Server
Richard Megginson (http://fedoranews.org/cms/user/3112) reports another story (http://fedoranews.org/cms/node/2661) on Fedora Directory Server:
InfoDesk requires an LDAP directory server that is fast, has a good feature set, and provides high uptime. Code portability with I-Planet Directory Server is also needed. Fedora Director Server fits all of our requirements...Fedora Directory Server proves itself as a top class open source product.
Ambassadors Report - SCALE5X
Thomas Chung (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ThomasChung) reports on SCALE5X in fedora-ambassadors-list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ambassadors-list/2007-February/msg00092.html):
Fifth Annual Southern California Linux Expo. According to recent announcement[2], there were over 1000 attendees in this year's event. Close to 70 exhibitors[3] including Non-Profit Organizations, Commercial Vendors and User Groups. This is my second year participation for Fedora Project[4] and I feel this year is much improved and crowded event than previous year. Also I was told this is the first time Red Hat[5]'s participation to this event.
