Annonce de Fedora 7 Test 1 (6.90)

Fedora 7 Test 1 est sortie aujourd'hui. Pour cette version particulière, nous avons seulement construit la version Desktop de la collection de paquets. Nous continuons à régler des détails sur certaines parties de la collection, à cause de la fusion entre Core et Extras. Nous avons également fait un LiveCD qui peut désormais être installé sur votre disque dur, si vous le desiriez.

Smolt: base données des profils matériel Fedora

Smolt est un outil permettant la création d'un profil matériel pour Fedora, ainsi nous pouvons avoir une meilleure idée du matériel utilisé dans le monde Fedora. Il est toujours en version beta, mais celles et ceux qui font tourner FC6 ou plus récent (rawhide) peuvent participer.

Base de données Fedora Package 0.1

Depuis quelques mois, je travaille sur une base de données de paquets pour les contributeurs et utilisateurs de Fedora. Cette base est conçue pour unifier certaines données que nous stockons actuellement sous CVS, et sur le wiki. L'idée est d'avoir un dépot central d'informations sur les paquets et une interface pour les contributeurs afin qu'ils puissent gérer les metadonnées de leurs paquets.

Preview de Fedora LiveCD 7 Test 1

D'après un article publié sur phoronix.com (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=637&num=1) :

Pour avoir obtenu un version test du LiveCD, c'est une belle première pour le Projet Fedora... Le thème Echo est une énorme amélioration par rapport à Fedora Core 6 et les précédents versions... Une particularité intéressante de LiveCD est la possibilité d'installer Fedora 7 sur le disque dur... L'installeur actuel utilise le moteur Anaconda.

First test of Fedora 7 released

According to recent article posted at linux.com (http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=07/02/02/1433241):

"We are making the tools used to create these spins freely available (open source) and easy to use, so that folks can do spins of their own for specific needs, like say a spin of Fedora focusing on the Eclipse software set for a handout at a conference," says Keating. "There are lots of options [and] opportunities out there. I've only thought of a few. I'm very interested in seeing what our user base chooses to create on their own."

Fedora's metrics have ripple effect

According to recent article posted at linux.com (http://distrocenter.linux.com/article.pl?sid=07/01/15/2137215&tid=107&tid=12):

Like Spevack, McGrath says that thorough data collection will ultimately lead to better Fedora packages. In addition to gathering metrics on user hardware, he would "also love to get a proper survey engine so we can flat out ask people what they're using our software for. We'd also be interested in getting a package list though that's down the road. This would be useful to see what packages are popular and which ones are just duds."

Security Week in Review 2007-01-28

Josh Bressers (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JoshBressers) reports in his blog (http://www.bress.net/blog/archives/51-Security-Week-in-Review-2007-01-28.html):

The biggest thing to happen is probably a new version of Wireshark. Wireshark 0.99.5 was released on Thursday. It only fixes some minor crashing bugs.

bind - Fixed in FC5 and FC6. This is the bind update I mentioned last week.
libsoup - Fixed in FC6

We have a new effort in place to report The Board news as well as Meeting Minutes from each sub-project for Fedora community to gather information on the happenings in the Fedora universe in a easily digestible and referenceable format.
