Fedora 7 Test 1 Freeze

Jesse Keating (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JesseKeating) reports in fedora-maintainers list (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-maintainers/2007-January/msg00257.html):

The targets have changed a bit, we're only going to compose Fedora Desktop, and a LiveCD to accompany it. Other spins may be done later and be published in a yet to be determined locations, as we try to fine tune them, but for the "official" test 1, just the desktop.

Also here is a short FAQ (http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-maintainers/2007-January/msg00260.html) regarding the number of CDs, DVD and LiveCD.

Fedora 7 Test 1 Approaching

Jeremy Katz (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JeremyKatz) points out in his blog (http://katzj.livejournal.com/400060.html):

As has been pretty apparent, we're working for Fedora 7 to get to where Core and Extras don't really exist as separate entitites. This include common source control, common build system, and just continued overall unification. Getting to that point, though, is taking a fair bit of time as there are a lot of little details that have to be worked out and there's a fair bit of getting agreement on various things. We're not quite to where I had hoped we'd be for test1, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

Plymouth: The next generation RHGB

Kristian Høgsberg (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KristianHoegsberg) points out in his blog (http://hoegsberg.blogspot.com/2007/01/plymouth.html):

Leading up to FUDCon, I figured I should expand a bit on the "executive summary" from the previous post. Plymouth is the code name for the next generation RHGB (Red Hat Graphical Boot) effort, and as I hinted in the previous post, the key idea is to put the X server in the initramfs.

The Top Ten Reasons to Attend SCALE

Southern California Linux Expo (http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale5x/) announces in their announce-list (http://mail.socallinuxexpo.com/pipermail/scale-announce/2007-January/000035.html):

After working on press releases for the So Cal Linux Expo for literally months, you run a bit dry sometimes. I asked the SCALE volunteers with suggestions for reasons why you'd want to come to SCALE. Here's what we came up with: The top Ten Reasons to attend the So Cal Linux Expo! Come to SCALE and have a blast! SCALE will be February 9-11, 2007, at The Westin LAX Hotel.

Security Week in Review 2007-01-21

Josh Bressers (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JoshBressers) reports in his blog (http://www.bress.net/blog/index.php?/archives/50-Security-Week-in-Review-2007-01-21.html):

This week would appear to be pretty tame given how few security updates there were. Fedora Core saw zero security update while Red Hat Enterprise Linux saw two. The most notable thing that happened this week was a bind update.
