Announcing Fedora Core 6 (Zod)
The Fedora Project is pleased to announce the release of Fedora Core 6 (Zod). Install-time access to third-party package repositories, extensive performance improvements, support for Intel-based Macs, and a new GUI virtualization manager are some of the primary features. Additionally, Fedora Core 6 provides various improvements on the desktop, including a new default font and theme, the latest releases of GNOME and KDE, and additional options in window managers.

Fedora Core 6 (Zod) Live-Spins Released
The Fedora Unity Project is proud to announce the initial release of several Fedora Core 6 Live-Spin CD and DVD ISO images. These Live-Spins are based on the 24 October initial release of Fedora Core 6. They are available for the i386 and x86_64 architectures via BitTorrent immediately.
A Live-Spin CD or DVD provides a "reasonably useful web browser/email/OpenOffice access," said Jef Spaleta, long time Fedora community member. It "should be a good quick peek at what the FC6 desktops feel like ... without having to do a full install." He added, "9 out of 10 voices in my head agree: 'Unity's Live-Spin CD is a pretty good starting point for future live CD development.'"

Phoronix: Fedora Core 6 Review

We have already used Fedora Core 6 Zod for several days now and have been extremely pleased by this release. The changes are extensive from default AIGLX + Compiz support to a great deal of performance improvements. Another nice feature is the immediate availability of Extras packages built for Fedora Core 6 (ATRPMS, Livna, and FreshRPMs also have third-party FC6 repositories established).

To sum up Fedora Core 6, I will say that once you have it set up properly FC 6 runs very impressively. I had the impression that FC 6 may have been rushed, just because of the handful of minor bugs that appeared. The mixup of arches, i586 & i686 was weird and the first system update having a update conflict was a glaring error, even though it was easy to fix.

The artwork is fantastic, the selection of packages is very good and the desktop is one of the best. I don't know if it's the general look and feel or the way the menus and applications are set but the desktop environment is one of the best I know. It's really comfortable and pleasant to use.
